Steel Structures for the Brussels RER: Platforms and Walkways
Study, Design, and Production of Hangers, Walkways, and Railway Signalling Platforms
1) Context
As part of the works for the future Brussels RER (Regional Express Network) implemented by Infrabel, the Belgian railway infrastructure manager, on railway lines around Brussels—particularly on the Brussels–Nivelles line—MECAWA has designed and produced galvanised steel hangers, walkways, and signalling platforms. These were installed on catenary gantries and on station platforms.
2) Partnership
Our client and partner for this project, the company Putman, is active in the implementation of electrical and electromechanical installations across various sectors such as rail, industry, residential, commercial, and infrastructure. Putman is organised into several departments, allowing them to meet the specific needs of their clients.
3) Study, Design, and Production
Our engineers and designers developed and optimised the various walkways, platforms, hangers, and fixing clamps in close collaboration with the client, while complying with the welding and surface treatment standards imposed by the railway engineering consultancy TUC RAIL.
4) Results and Conclusions
In conclusion, this railway infrastructure project was a first for MECAWA. While we are more accustomed to producing components for rolling stock, this experience has opened new horizons and partnerships for us. We would like to thank all stakeholders who contributed to this project.
