Study, Design, Production and Installation of stainless steel sliding covers for water supply chambers

1) Context

As part of the Regional Water Resources Scheme (SRRE 3.0), aimed at securing water supply in Wallonia, the Société Wallonne des Eaux (SWDE) has undertaken the modernisation of its water supply network. On the Grâce-Hollogne – Wellin section, near Andenne, two water supply chambers were identified as strategic points requiring specific equipment to ensure the reliability and safety of the network.
MECAWA was commissioned to design, produce and install galvanised steel pipe supports for pipes with diameters of DN 200 and DN 400, as well as stainless steel sliding covers to protect the installations from external damage and to facilitate maintenance.

2) Partnership

This project was carried out in close collaboration with Argea, an engineering consultancy specialising in hydraulic infrastructure, and the SWDE, the main public water distribution operator in Wallonia. The trust placed in MECAWA by these partners reflects its recognised expertise in manufacturing bespoke metal structures that meet the technical and environmental requirements of large-scale projects.

3) Study, Design, Production and Installation

With its in-house design office and teams of electromechanical technicians, MECAWA managed the entire process from design to on-site installation. The pipe supports were designed to ensure optimal stability of the pipelines, taking into account the mechanical constraints and environmental conditions specific to the site.
The stainless steel sliding covers, manufactured with high-precision welding, provide effective protection for the installations while allowing easy access for maintenance operations. Production was carried out in MECAWA’s workshops, ensuring strict quality control at every stage.
On-site installation was completed within the allocated timeframe, thanks to effective coordination between teams and efficient logistics.

4) Results and Conclusions

The installed equipment fully meets expectations in terms of robustness, durability and ease of maintenance. This project reinforces MECAWA’s position as a trusted partner in the design and manufacture of custom-made welded assemblies for the water distribution sector.
The success of this intervention paves the way for equipping other water supply chambers in the coming days, continuing the implementation of SRRE 3.0 and contributing to the security of water supply for Walloon citizens.
