Aluminium Building for the Protection of a Gas Pressure Reduction Station

Study, Design, and Production of an aluminium shelter for a gas station

1) Context

In the municipality of Thulin, in the province of Mons, as part of the modernisation of its gas distribution network for households and businesses, our client installed a new gas pressure reduction station with a capacity of 5,000 nm³/h. To secure these installations, Mecawa was selected to design, manufacture, and install a protective enclosure.

This enclosure takes the form of a building with an aluminium structure. The roof is covered with insulated panels, and the building is clad in brick-effect siding. The enclosure measures 12m x 3.5m and was designed in two parts, which were joined together on site.

2) Partnership

Ores is a Belgian company active in the energy sector and is one of the main electricity and gas network operators in the Walloon Region. Ores operates in 200 municipalities, representing 75% of Wallonia’s towns and cities, and employs approximately 2,495 people.

Ores' vision is summed up in a single phrase that reflects the core of its ambitions: to be a true driver of the energy transition. At the same time, it strives to ensure everyone is included in the evolving energy system.

3) Study, Design, Production, and Installation

Shelters and metal enclosures are among Mecawa's areas of expertise. For many years, various stakeholders in the energy sector have relied on our products and services to protect their technical installations. However, the manufacture and assembly of 12-metre-long buildings is not an everyday task.

Many factors must be considered, requiring rigorous organisation and perfect coordination among our teams. For every new metal enclosure project, a bespoke design and engineering study is carried out, taking into account the client's specifications and the environment in which the building will be installed.

A precise industrialisation of the enclosure is essential to optimise the manufacturing process and facilitate on-site assembly.

4) Results and Conclusions

Our teams successfully assembled this large-scale structure within the agreed timeframe, in full compliance with the environmental constraints and the original specifications. The excellent preparatory work by our engineers and production operators played a key role in the successful and professional completion of the project.
