Aluminium access hatches and covers for water treatment
Engineering, design, production of aluminium covers and safety bars for water treatment plants
1) The context
INASEP, is a public service company in Belgium operating in the water treatment field. INASEP has launched a contract for the construction of a wastewater treatment plant in Assesse, in the province of Namur. Several contractors collaborated in the realization of the project. Mecawa, designed and manufactured, for the electromechanical integrator AC Herstal, the aluminium covers and stainless steel safety bars for various technical rooms of the plant.
2) The customer
The contracting authority, INASEP in this case, awarded part of the contract to the Ateliers de construction de Herstal. This company specializes in the supply of efficient and reliable water distribution installations, treatment plants for industrial, drinking and waste water.
3) Project challenges
The customer was seeking for a partner capable of :
- Design and manufacture aluminium protective covers respecting technical constraints within a tight budget
- Propose protection against possible falls of people, based on existing models but providing more attention and robustness to these elements, too often considered as simple accessories
4) Provided solutions
In agreement with our partner, the following solutions have been proposed and validated :
- Simplification of the design of the covers, to offer a finished product in line with the required quality-price aspect, taking into account the minimum load to be respected
- Optimization of the safety fall arrester system
5) Results and conclusions
A project focused on desgin-to-cost, or in other words, seeking for an optimal product design by controlling the costs of industrialization and production, corresponding to the imposed specifications.
